Woo-hoo! I now have 200 followers on WordPress! (And about 800 from Facebook and Twitter). Silly, meaningless, but fun. I’d rather have 200 readers who care about what I post and interact with me than 200,000 nameless faceless statistics. Thank you all for reading, commenting and caring!
I just hit 200 too 🙂 I lingered in the high 190s for a good long while, so breaking that ceiling felt awesome. Congrats.
I like your attitude about the statistics–Wordpress provides a lot of interesting statistical data, but it’s not worth obsessing about the numbers. I like the variety of local subjects that you photograph in the DC area and have also really enjoyed the recent series of images from your trip to Paris, one of my favorite cities in the world.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed this or not but, thinking of WordPress statistics, while they’re interesting, they’re kind of shady. I’ve seen times where they told me, “you have 12 page views, four unique visitors, and those visitors came from the following six countries…”. And those countries were neither small nor adjacent. How does that work? Does one of my fans have a teleportation device nobody else knows about? Is Dr. Who reading my blog from the wi-fi in his Tardis? Inquiring minds want to know!
It’s a mystery how things are counted. It’s my observation that certain stats are updated less frequently than others, with the number of viewers often behind the number of countries, for example. Then there is the question of likes versus views–my “likes” often exceed my “views,” because subscribers can like my posts without opening them. All of this reinforces my healthy skepticism of the stats, but I can’t help but be fascinated by them.
